Forum quorum

We are trying to get this forum started. And I, as is commonly known, am afraid of forums. And here I am moderating one...

One of my fears is doing a good job of keeping the bad stuff out of the forum. It starts already at approving members. There must be some kind of creepy software out there that just scans the internet for new forums that pop up and automatically registers weird things for membership. It's pretty easy to recognize and eliminate prospective member ZoloftForLess (and worse...) from membership, but some other screen names and emails and IPs ... eh ... I just don't know ...

Anyway, if I haven't approved your membership, that is the reason. If you would like to re-apply, maybe give a girl a clue... How about an * in your screen name? Or something else? If nothing else, send me an email and I'll make the connection.

Sorry for the inconvenience. I just want to do this right and let UggBootsDirect find a more fitting forum.

I use SMF for my forum too and they have some amazing how tos and add ons that are very helpful at their help site....the link above is how to set up the questions to block spammers from signing up...for me I went from self blocking nearly 100 a day to 0---I added the question 'are you a robot?' and things like that ...hope this helps!! I have been through most of the startup stuff with SMF so if you need any more help let me know.. Tabbi momtasticstitchery at gmail dot com

Tabitha!

Thank you! That is great information! I'm going to give it a try later.

If the offer stands, I may email you.

YOU ROCK!

Absolutely the offer stands...good luck with it...I keep thinking I know how to use my forum and then have to ask the 'people in the know' at their forum lol

lol Nancy, UggBootsDirect visits Crafty Mamas too. I have ( truly) 1412 spammers join the CM forum last weekend. I sat down Monday night, deleted them..and while I was still online, 500 more joined! I manually approve, it really is the only way to keep the whackos at bay.

ps: can I be approved please? I am really quite sane, and do not sell Ugg boots! :D
